Every year, My Baja Insurance creates a calendar for our clients and friends, and every year we pick a theme that celebrates Mexico. For 2027, the theme is Mexico’s haciendas: twelve historic estates, one for each month, from the henequen fields of Yucatán to the sugar valleys of Morelos.

The tagline on this year’s calendar says it best: Tradition, Culture, and Beauty in Every Season.

Why haciendas?

Haciendas are some of the most beautiful buildings in Mexico. Many began in the colonial era as farms, ranches, mines, or sugar mills. Each one was a small world of its own, with a main house, a chapel, workshops, and gardens.

Today, many of them have a second life as boutique hotels, museums, restaurants, and wedding venues. Visiting one is a way to walk through Mexican history, and most of them make a perfect road-trip destination.

The 12 haciendas of 2027, month by month

January: Hacienda Garabato, Aguascalientes

We open the year in the heart of Mexico’s Bajío region, with an estate whose stone church tower rises over the open countryside.

February: Hacienda Temozón, Yucatán

Near Mérida, Temozón is one of the most remarkable henequen haciendas of Yucatán, where the “green gold” fiber once made the region rich. Today its pool and gardens are a picture of calm.

March: Hacienda San Cristóbal Polaxtla, Puebla

A grand white façade with wrought-iron balconies, surrounded by palms and gardens in the Puebla valley.

April: Hacienda La Noria, Mexico City

Proof that history survives even inside the capital: old stone walls and a quiet courtyard far from the traffic.

May: Hacienda La Loma, Coahuila

Whitewashed walls under a big northern sky show that the hacienda tradition stretched all the way to Mexico’s north.

June: Hacienda San Antonio, Colima

Set at the foot of the Colima volcano, this former coffee hacienda glows at dusk with its warm stone arches.

July: Hacienda San Gabriel de las Palmas, Morelos

San Gabriel was founded in 1529 under orders from Hernán Cortés. It began as a Franciscan monastery and later became a sugar plantation. Today it is a boutique hotel in Amacuzac, Morelos.

August: Hacienda Santa María Regla, Hidalgo

This silver-processing hacienda is in Huasca de Ocampo, one of Mexico’s Pueblos Mágicos, close to the famous basalt prisms.

September: Hacienda Santa María Xalostoc, Tlaxcala

Tlaxcala’s haciendas grew wealthy on pulque and grain. Xalostoc’s stone walls and wide patios carry that history into the present.

October: Hacienda Vista Hermosa, Morelos

Tall palms and old stone arcades make Vista Hermosa one of the most photographed former sugar haciendas in Morelos.

November: Hacienda Santiago Texmelucan, Puebla

At night, strings of lights turn the courtyard into a celebration, the perfect image for the season of fiestas.

December: Hacienda Sepúlveda, Jalisco

We close the year in the Altos de Jalisco region, with warm terracotta walls and bougainvillea in bloom.

Mexico’s official holidays in 2027

The calendar also marks Mexico’s official rest days for 2027, as set by Article 74 of the Federal Labor Law (Ley Federal del Trabajo):

Date
Holiday
Friday, January 1New Year’s Day
Monday, February 1Constitution Day (observed first Monday of February)
Monday, March 15Birthday of Benito Juárez (observed third Monday of March)
Saturday, May 1Labor Day
Thursday, September 16Independence Day
Monday, November 15Revolution Day (observed third Monday of November)
Saturday, December 25Christmas Day

May 5, the Battle of Puebla, is an important civic date, and schools usually close. However, it is not an official rest day under the Federal Labor Law.

Planning a long weekend? February 1, March 15 and November 15 all fall on Mondays in 2027, so each one makes a three-day weekend.

Explore, enjoy, be protected

Many of these haciendas are a road trip away, and that is exactly where we come in. If you are driving in Mexico, Mexican auto liability insurance is required, and your U.S. or Canadian policy won’t cover you here. My Baja Insurance has helped drivers travel with confidence since 1994.

Before your next trip, get your Mexican car insurance in minutes.
